2000s Boy Bander Undergoes Second Heart Surgery
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Max George from The Wanted shared a serious health update on Instagram.
“A few weeks ago I had to go back into hospital after having some physical symptoms in my chest. It turned out that one of the leads was placed too far into my heart,” the boy band singer, 36, shared in a post on Monday, February 17.
“It’s been a setback, but it’s just one of those things. I’ve had a few complications the last couple of months but I’m having loads of tests to make sure everything is all good. It could take a few weeks / months for the inflammation of my heart to subside, but I’m sure I’ll be back on top form in no time,” he continued before thanking fans for their support.

George’s surgery comes just two months after he revealed that doctors found an issue with his heart.
“Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a set back, it’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got! I count myself very lucky that this was caught when it was,” he captioned an Instagram post in December 2024.
At the time, he ended up needing emergency surgery during which doctors put in a pacemaker — an electronic device that helps the heart keep its rhythm.
Less than two months later, the “Glad You Came” singer was back in the hospital. After running some tests, doctors determined that George would need another surgery. They warned him, however, that this surgery could be dangerous.
“The night before, I was really nervous, I didn’t sleep much. I was worried it could go wrong again and felt anxious that it could bleed out,” he said in an interview with The Sun.
George had successful surgery on Wednesday, January 15, but enlarged lymph nodes landed him back in the hospital two days later.
“The doctor did warn me there is a small chance that I could lose my voice. That was pretty worrying, but I decided I needed to take the risk,” he told the outlet. “The biopsy was pretty gnarly, it’s a camera with prongs on the end that goes down your throat. It was painful. The recovery was tough, I had chest pain and was coughing up blood for five days,” he added.
He appears to be in good spirits and seems to be doing better. On Sunday, February 16, he posted a photo alongside Love Island’s Luca Bish.
“I know who I’m voting for,” he captioned the post. It’s unclear if the photo posted was recent.
