The Chicago White Sox explored the option of trading their two best players Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr. this year.
Ultimately, they never moved either player, opting to explore the possibility of moving them this offseason.
Now that the offseason is here, Crochet is the hottest name on the trade market.
“No already-employed player was sought after more at these GM meetings than Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet, who struck out 209 batters in 146 innings and earned only $800,000 last season,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote. “The White Sox have openly told teams he’s available and are expected to trade him by the end of the winter meetings, with the Philadelphia Phillies and (Los Angeles) Dodgers the most aggressive.”
But where could he end up being traded?

Los Angeles Dodgers As Nightengale stated above, the Dodgers are already checking in on Crochet.
Adding Crochet would give the Dodgers the best rotation in baseball next year. It would add Crochet to a rotation with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow.
Los Angeles has a ton of talented young arms that they could move in the deal. Crochet would be the perfect addition because Los Angeles would still have the money to pursue stars in free agency.
Boston Red Sox The Boston Red Sox are in desperate need of a pitcher. The Red Sox are going to check in on free-agent pitchers like Max Fried, Jack Flaherty, and Corbin Burnes, but looking to acquire Crochet could be their best move.
The 25-year-old could be had for a few top-ten prospects in a trade. If the Red Sox can make a deal happen without losing one of its top five prospects, they would be much better off in 2025 than in 2024.
Philadelphia Phillies The Philadelphia Phillies was the team most closely connected to Crochet during the 2024 season. Ultimately, Crochet stayed with the White Sox and Philadelphia regretted not making a move for a starter as Taijaun Walker fell apart.
It makes sense that Nightengale connects the Phillies to Crochet this winter because Philadelphia likely hasn’t left Chicago alone about him. Philadelphia could be interested in both Crochet and Luis Robert Jr., but it would need to move a haul of prospects to acquire both of its biggest needs.
New York Mets The New York Mets are going to be big buyers in free agency as Steve Cohen looks to build a loaded roster. But the ideal way to build a roster from the ground up is a mix of prospects, free agents, and trade pieces.
Adding Crochet would save the Mets money that it could use on somebody such as Corbin Burnes, Pete Alonso, or Juan Soto in free agency. The Mets are going to be ultra-aggressive at building their roster this offseason, so a trade for Crochet is definitely an option.
