49ers Announce Final Call on Brock Purdy, Mac Jones for Rams Game
The San Francisco 49ers will be without their franchise quarterback for the sixth consecutive game as they face off against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Brock Purdy has missed seven of the 49ers’ nine games so far this season with a nagging turf toe injury he sustained in Week 1. The 25-year-old QB suffered a setback during his return to the field in Week 4, and hasn’t been able to play since.
Purdy notched limited participation in practice this week, but he still won’t be able to take the field in Week 10.
On Friday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Mac Jones as the team’s starter for the sixth straight week. Purdy could be active as an emergency backup, but he also might not even dress for the NFC West clash.
“It’ll be Mac again starting,” Shanahan said. “I haven’t decided whether to make [Purdy] active or not, but he’s further along this week than last week.”

Jones has been solid as the fill-in QB for Purdy, leading the 49ers to a 5-2 record as a starter. The former first-round pick has completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 1,832 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
In last Sunday’s Week 9 win over the New York Giants, Jones threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns on 19-24 passing.
Earlier this week, Shanahan said the 49ers are “Brock’s team” whenever he’s healthy enough to get back on the field. That being said, he also expressed confidence in Jones as the team’s temporary starter.

“This is Brock’s team and if Brock’s good to go and everything and can play like Brock, there’s no decision to be made,” Shanahan said. “It’s just nice as we go through this with Brock with the uncertainty of the toe, it is cool to have someone playing as good as Mac is.”
Sunday’s Week 10 matchup between the Rams and 49ers will kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET.
