49ers’ Deebo Samuel, Jake Moody, Taybor Pepper Respond to Sideline Altercation
A trio of San Francisco 49ers players provided insight on the sideline altercation between wide receiver Deebo Samuel, kicker Jake Moody, and long-snapper Taybor Pepper.

Samuel confronted Moody near the sideline after he missed his third field goal of the day. Pepper intervened and almost got into it with Samuel.
“Jake was having a little rough patch there,” Pepper said. “Standing up for Jake because there was still time on the clock. The game wasn’t over & everybody knows what happened at the end…I’ve always got 4’s back.”
Pepper explained what Samuel told Moody when he approached the kicker on the sideline.
“He was telling him to lock in,” Pepper said. “We know what our job is. It’s hard being a specialist. Sometimes it’s feast or famine and as a young, developing specialist like Jake is…the best mental exercise you can have, I mean I don’t know how much better it gets than missing three straight and having to step up and hit an almost 50-yard game-winner. I’m super proud of Jake.”
Moody also commented on the heated interaction with Samuel following San Francisco’s 23-20 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“It’s an emotional game,” Moody said. “Stuff like that happens all the time. You’ve just got to move past it, we won so that’s all that matters… There doesn’t need to be (an apology). Heat of the moment. I do have to make those kicks, at the end of the day that’s all I’m focused on.”
After a bit of pressure from Samuel, Moody was tasked with hitting the game-winning field goal. Despite missing three previous attempts, Moody clinched the game for the 49ers with his final field goal of the day.
“I really wanted a chance to redeem myself, felt really confident, really good going that direction,” Moody said. “It was the same exact spot as the previous kick… Saw what happened w/the previous one & was able to make the adjustment.”
The media also asked Samuel about the heated altercation with Moody and Pepper.
“Frustrated, in the heat of battle,” Samuel said. “I got out of character a little bit. I’ll talk to Moody & we’ll get past it. I think he had a little dawg in him, a little motivation to go out there & make the FG.”
