49ers Make Surprising Brock Purdy Decision Ahead of Rams Game
The San Francisco 49ers will have Mac Jones start again, as the team looks to take control of the NFC West. The plan was for Brock Purdy to be the backup, but the team has made a surprising decision for the former starting quarterback.

Purdy has only played in two games this season, as he suffered a significant turf toe injury that has impacted him in a very significant way. He would return in Week 4, but reaggravated the injury. That reaggravation has led to a far longer layoff.
Purdy should be the starting quarterback when he is fully healthy, but that appears not to be the case again in Week 10. Though head coach Kyle Shanahan stated he would be the backup, that is no longer the case.
Per reports, Purdy has been ruled out instead of being the backup for Jones. It appears that his toe injury is still significant enough to keep him out of action, even in a would-be backup role.

The 49ers cannot afford for Purdy to be hurt long-term, which is probably why Shanahan has chosen instead to be cautious with the signal caller. The star quarterback might just need a couple more weeks to fully heal, which shouldn’t be an issue for the team.
Even with the mounting injuries, the 49ers have a 6-3 record, and Jones has played some good football in his starts. He has 1,832 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions in seven starts.
The 49ers are slowly getting healthy, but Purdy being 100 percent is paramount to the team’s success, especially in the later months. San Francisco is likely to allow the quarterback to heal and be ready for a playoff push, if he cannot return sooner.
