Harrison Ford, 82, Says He Is ‘Ill’ After 1982 Photos Resurface
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Harrison Ford has made it clear that he has no fondness for his past fashion choices, particularly when it comes to one infamous outfit from the ’80s.
The actor, currently starring in Apple TV+’s Shrinking as Dr. Paul Rhoades, sat down for an interview with GQ, where he was confronted about his iconic blue shorts and sweater combination which he wore to Cannes Film Festival in 1982.
During the interview, which was published on Monday, October 14, the interviewer brought up the image, noting that it has since become a point of inspiration for many menswear enthusiasts. “This is GQ, so I have to ask you one fashion question,” she said, referring to the photo and asking the Indiana Jones actor if he’s aware of the chatter around his look. Ford’s reaction was immediate and candid: “I think I’m going to be ill.”
At 82, Ford acknowledged he has indeed seen the photograph but made it clear that he’s not a fan of his past style choices. When asked if he appreciated his look back then, he simply stated, “I’ve grown out of it.” He also humorously recounted the story behind his famous earring, recalling a lunch with Jimmy Buffett and Ed Bradley as the source of his fashion flair.
The Jurassic Park alum may reflect on his past fashion choices with a critical eye, but when it comes to his career, Ford has a clear set of criteria for selecting projects, emphasizing the importance of quality writing. “It doesn’t matter what the genre is… it’s the writing, it’s the story, it’s the character, it’s the emotional experience,” he explained to the outlet. Perhaps that wasn’t at the forefront of his mind when he took a chance and auditioned for the role of Han Solo in Star Wars back in 1972 – the film that catapulted him to fame – but it certainly set the stage for a career defined by iconic roles rather than questionable wardrobe choices.
The second season of Shrinking is set to drop on Wednesday, October 16.
