Hunting Dog Adorably Confused Over Mounted Deer Head: ‘Didn’t Understand’
A video of a dog trying to relax in bed got worked up over a wall decoration he usually only sees outside has left people in stitches.
Gunnar the year-and-a-half-old Bavarian mountain hound was sitting on the bed with his owner, who is known on TikTok as @logangb123. Instead of relaxing and getting to bed, Gunnar was pacing the bed. The tracking dog in him was activated after he spotted a deer mounted on the wall.
“This was the first time he had seen the deer mount before,” the owner told Newsweek via TikTok.
Gunnar works as a tracking dog and when he saw the deer mount staring back at him, he went into working gear. He moved from side to side, groaning and growling. His body shook with confusion. Even when we got closer to the deer mount he couldn’t understand how he missed this with his impeccable sense of smell.
The caption reads: “He didn’t understand why the deer was in my room and not the woods.”
While it took him for a loop the first time he saw it, his owner said he’s used to it now.
“But he still stares at it all the time,” the owner said.
The TikTok clip amassed over 700,700 views, 140,800 likes and 436 comments as of Friday.
“He’s like, ‘I could have sworn I tracked that down last winter,'” commented a viewer, while a second wrote: “Bro is STRESSED.”
Another person added what the dog was thinking: “How am I supposed to relax? HE’S LOOKING RIGHT AT US?! DO SOMETHING WOMAN.”
A dog owner shared: “We had one that tried to climb the bed headboard to get to one in our room! It was so funny.”
Bavarian Mountain Hound
Bavarian mountain hounds, originally developed in Germany, were used as scent dogs to help track down wounded game. They’re agile and athletic, as they were designed to work on steep mountain slopes.
An article from Dogster about the breed states these dogs were originally bred as a cross between a Bavarian hound and a Hanover hound, however, they have developed into their own breed today. Some are still used to track or hunt, however, they can also make great companion dogs as they’re loyal, affectionate and attached to their owners.
Known for their cold-nose tracking ability, Bavarian mountain hounds can differentiate when a certain species is injured or not. Persistent and fast, these dogs can also work as hunting dogs.
These dogs stand, on average, between 17 and 20.5 inches and weigh between 37 and 66 pounds. Their average lifespan is around 12 to 15 years.
