76ers Star Joel Embiid to Miss Multiple Games Due to Troubling New Injury

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid will miss the team’s next few games as he manages swelling in his left knee. Embiid is receiving treatment and his status will be updated early next week.

Embiid was ruled out for the 76ers’ NBA Cup game against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, but it seems that the issue may be more severe. The former league MVP has only played in four games this season for Philadelphia, making this issue potentially troubling.
However, even when he’s been on the floor, Embiid hasn’t quite looked like himself. The veteran has averaged 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
In contrast, Embiid averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. Embiid is also only shooting 16.7 percent from beyond the 3-point line this year, a massive difference from his 38.8 percent clip throughout last season.
Philadelphia has been ravaged by injuries this year, with each of the club’s big three stars having to miss time. All-Star forward Paul George and All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey have all dealt with different issues to begin the season.
Embiid has a long injury history, so the 76ers may elect to be cautious with his return. The last thing that they want to happen is for him to rush back, only to have him suffer something worse.

The 76ers hold a record of 2-12 entering their game against Brooklyn, sitting in last place within the Eastern Conference standings. Losing Embiid for any amount of time will only hurt their overall chances of turning things around.
Philadelphia was expected to be one of the better teams in the NBA this season, but things have quickly turned the other way for them. Philadelphia currently has the worst record in the Eastern Conference, 2-12. The 76ers haven’t been able to field any consistency on the court, in part due to all the missed games from their stars, and it’s hurt them in the standings.
The 76ers have also been dealing with drama from what was supposed to be a secret team meeting that ended up being leaked. Maxey called out Embiid but those details weren’t supposed to go public.

All in all, it has been a nightmare start to the season for Philadelphia. All the team can do now is put their heads down and hope that better news and results on the court will come soon.
