Red Sox ‘Very Interested’ In Signing Juan Soto, Says David Ortiz
The Boston Red Sox are in hot pursuit of the top free agent of this winter’s class.
As rumors around the team’s willingness to spend higher than years past continue to circulate, one Red Sox legend close to ownership insists the team’s desire to acquire the superstar is genuine.
“One thing that I can tell you, the Red Sox are very interested in getting (Juan) Soto,” David Ortiz told Joey Copponi and Scott Neville of Newsweek Sports on the ITM Podcast, “The way I have seen the Red Sox approaching him — the only time I have seen them approaching people like that is when they really want him. I’m glad they are moving on with signing players and trying to change the direction of our organization.”
Ortiz has been involved in the recruitment process, pitching the Boston experience to Soto. Without legitimate interest in acquiring Soto, and willingness to cut the check necessary to do so, employing Ortiz would be moot.
The Red Sox legend is adamant Soto is the player that ownership has been waiting to build around, and has been saying so for years. His tone in his interview Friday was increasingly optimistic.
“Who wouldn’t like to have a player like Juan Soto in his corner? And what gives me a lot of hope is that the Red Sox are trying to get him,” Ortiz added in his interview on ITM. “That builds up your confidence level. If that would be on me, of course I would do whatever it takes to do that, but you know it takes more than that.”
