Will Joe Biden Pardon His Brother Next? What We Know

President Joe Biden may pardon his brother, Jim, to protect him from indictment, Republican members of the House Oversight Committee have said.

The committee’s chairman, James Comer, told Fox News on Monday that Jim Biden’s loan deals were crimes and that he should be indicted, along with the president.

“I believe two other Biden family members definitely and knowingly committed crimes. In addition to Hunter Biden, you have Jim Biden and Joe Biden,” he said.

Newsweek sought email comment from the White House and from Jim Biden’s attorney on Tuesday.

President Biden controversially pardoned his son, Hunter, just weeks before he was due to be sentenced on gun and tax crimes. He also pardoned him for any crimes from the years 2014 to 2024 inclusively— years in which he was involved in business deals with his uncle, Jim.

Who is Jim Biden?

Joe Biden’s younger brother is a businessman who has dabbled in everything from nightclubs to insurance to hospitals.

In 2022, The Washington Post described him in a profile article as a “political wild card” who had frequently used the president’s name to attract investors.

“From the start of Joe Biden’s political career, James, who is seven years younger, has also walked up to ethical lines his brother has avoided, leaving a complicated trail of business dealings and angry lawsuits,” the profile states.

As a young student, Jim Biden dropped out of the University of Delaware and began his investment career. In 1972, he used his business skills as chief fundraiser when Joe Biden first ran for the Senate.

He and Hunter Biden are close. Hunter Biden’s emails, which were leaked by a laptop repair shop owner, reveal Jim Biden’s willingness to share advice with his nephew.

“Hunter, we are cut from the same cloth,” one email states. “You are a fine and yes, a gentle person. Believe it or not, I know you. Sounds corney [sic], but we both deserve to enjoy the moment. Concentrate on the good in our lives and try to step out of all the bulls*** you deal with on a minute to minute basis.”

Jim and Hunter Biden were working on a deal with Chinese executives at the time and have worked on other foreign deals together through the years.

What is Jim Biden Accused Of?

Republicans say that Jim Biden used his brother’s name to take out loans and never repaid them.

In February, Jim Biden told a joint hearing by the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees that he did not take out any improper loans.

Biden told the committees on February 21 that fund manager Michael Lewitt wrote off $225,000 in loans to Biden’s firm when Jim Biden was investing in a rural hospital chain.

However, in March, Lewitt, told the news site, Politico, that he did not forgive the loans.

He said a third party, which he declined to name, took over the debt. This taking over of the debt by the mysterious party occurred in 2020, while Joe Biden was running for president.

Politico also claimed that Jim Biden invoked Joe Biden’s name while investing in the rural hospital chain.

That has led to intense interest by Republican congressmen, hoping to uncover business links between Jim and Joe Biden.

“Jim Biden, he took in all these loans, he didn’t pay any interest, didn’t pay any principal, had no loan documentation. At what point do those loans become income, they never pay taxes on,” Comer told Fox host, Sean Hannity, on Monday.

“And by the way, why did he get those loans? And what was he doing?” Comer asked.

Another Republican member of the Oversight Committee, Texas Congressman, Pat Fallon, told Fox on Monday that Jim Biden could “very well be” the next Biden family member to receive a presidential pardon.

“Joe Biden has been lying to the American people for so long about this and other things,” he said.
