‘Connections’ December 10: Answers and Hints for Game #548
Another day means there is another Connections puzzle to solve—and Newsweek is here to help you solve it.
In the wake of Wordle‘s phenomenal success—a game that captivated millions and was acquired by The New York Times in early 2022—the paper introduced Connections in 2023. The puzzle game has rapidly garnered a dedicated global fan base, with players eagerly discussing strategies and sharing their daily results on social media.
The answers for Tuesday’s puzzle are at the bottom of this article, so proceed with caution if you’d prefer to solve it on your own.
How to Play ‘Connections’
Connections tasks players with grouping 16 words into four categories based on association. For example, Monday’s game linked the words “Flint,” “Lighter,” “Magnifying Glass” and “Matches” in the category “Used In Starting A Fire.”
Each of the four categories is labeled with a color, which also signifies their difficulty level. Yellow is the easiest category, followed by green, blue and purple. The puzzles are rarely straightforward, using homophones and wordplay, among other techniques, to keep players challenged.
Once you have selected four words, you click the “submit” button. If your choices match a category, they will appear in the category color and disappear from the grid. If they are incorrect, however, they will remain gray and stay on the board.
If you are stuck, try selecting the “shuffle” button to move the words to a different place on the grid. Players have up to four chances to guess incorrectly before the game ends. There’s no time constraint, so there is no need to rush.
“My top advice is to hold off on guessing as long as you can,” Wyna Liu, a crossword editor at The New York Times, previously told Newsweek.
“You might spot a clear category and think you see five words that fit, but don’t try guessing the four until you’re sure which one doesn’t belong. Jumping in too soon can cost you a turn.”
