Colorado’s Travis Hunter Overwhelming Wins 2024 Heisman Trophy
Colorado has its first Heisman Trophy award winner this century.
Travis Hunter, the two-way superstar who has defied all odds thus far, is taking home the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
Hunter is the first winner for the Colorado Buffaloes this century since running back Rashaan Salaam did so in 1994.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Hunter entered the week as the odds-on favorite to win the award, with -4000 odds over the other finalists, such as Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, and Miami’s Cam Ward.

Hunter can do it all on both sides, and he showed that throughout the 2024 season. The wide receiver/ cornerback had a historic season, collecting 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns while helping lead Colorado’s turnaround from 4-8 to 9-3. On the defensive end, Hunter recorded a 90.9 coverage grade, which is third among all corners in the county compared to PFF.
Hunter is an athlete and can play anywhere on the football field.
The Heisman Trophy is just another piece of hardware to Hunter’s collection. He has already collected the Walter Camp Award as the top overall player in the FBS, the Chuck Bednarik Award as the top defensive player, and the Biletnikoff Award for the best wide receiver.
Hunter was far from a Power 5 school as he was first at the HBCU’s Jackson State. As a freshman under Deion Sanders, he accumulated 19 total tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, one fumble recovery, and one defensive touchdown in seven games played. On offense, he added 18 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns.
The next year, Hunter followed Sanders to Colorado. The 2023 season was difficult for everyone involved, but Sanders and Hunter turned things around in 2024 as they led the Buffaloes to a 9-3 record and will play No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28.
The junior wide receiver and cornerback plans to enter the 2025 NFL draft and is expected to be a top-five pick—perhaps even No. 1 overall.
Hunter has all the tools to succeed at the next level and showed just a glimpse of what he could be in the NFL. The future is bright for Hunter, and this award could be one of many he could receive in his career.
