Mandy Moore Reacts to Carrie Underwood Inauguration Meme
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Mandy Moore might have hit the “like” button, but she’s not the only one who noticed the attention-grabbing meme about Carrie Underwood’s performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Moore, 40, seemingly liked a photo on Instagram shared by writer and podcast host Evan Ross Katz which poked fun at Underwood’s a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Underwood, 41, was forced to perform sans music due to unexpected technical difficulties in the U.S. Capitol on Monday, January 20.
In the photo, a composed Kamala Harris watches Underwood belt out the patriotic song, with a caption referencing RuPaul’s Drag Race star Coco Montrese’s famous line, “Girl, find the note,” as she observes Underwood’s performance.
While Moore’s “like” might not have been an endorsement of the shade, the interaction raised eyebrows among fans who quickly took to social media. The meme was also liked by other celebrities, including Ariana Grande.
Fans shared their comments on the meme –– some defending the country singer while others doubled down on her performance.
“Are you kidding me?? Carrie was AWESOME!!! Could Ariana Grande and Mandy Moore be just a little jealous??,” said one fan who noticed the two actresses liked the post.
“Um…Carrie was flawless. Kamala didn’t appear to even know the words,” another said, referring to the former vice president.
However, not everyone was on board. “After watching that performance, she’s the only vote I regret,” said one user, while another jabbed, “Sis was everywhere except on key.”
A third joked, “Jesus took the sound,” a reference to her popular song “Jesus Take The Wheel”
The country singer has sparked quite the controversy since revealing her plans on Monday, January 13, to sing at Trump’s second inauguration. About her decision, she stated to Newsweek: “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
