Iconic ’90s Boy Band Announces Major News
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
The ’90s gave the world a lot — frosted tips, Tamagotchis, and some of the biggest boy bands of all time. And while some groups faded into nostalgia, one has never really left: the Backstreet Boys. Now, they’re proving they’re still “larger than life” with a major residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
On Wednesday, February 12, the iconic band — Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, and Howie Dorough — took to social media to announce “Into the Millennium,” a nine-show run kicking off in July, making them the first pop act to headline the venue.

“We’re heading ‘Into The Millennium’ once again! 🌐🩵 Relive your Backstreet Boys Y2K memories, but this time… LARGER THAN LIFE at @SphereVegas starting this July!” the group wrote on Instagram.
Shortly after the post hit the internet, fans quickly flooded the comments section.
“I can’t wait!!! The best news ever!!!” one person exclaimed.
“Now THIS is pretty freaking cool!!! Wowwww wowwww!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 ” another wrote.
“ILL BE THERE!!! 😱😭💖” chimed in a third.
“Who’s gonna take me ?? I’m accepting invitations! 🙃🫶🏻💙 ” someone else joked.
“OMG BRB GETTING TICKETS!! MY MILLENNIAL HEART IS SCREAMING,” added another.
With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, the Backstreet Boys remain one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Millennium — which featured some of their biggest hits like “I Want it That Way,” “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely,” and “The One” — spent ten weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1999 and remains their most successful album to date.
For those hoping to catch the Backstreet Boys in action, the group will take the Sphere stage this summer, with shows starting Friday, July 11, and running throughout the month. Presale tickets are available now, with general sales opening soon.
