Bills Employee ‘Slick Rick’ Gifted Car Following Josh Allen MVP Speech


The Buffalo Bills have been part of several heartwarming stories in the team’s storied history. From fans donating thousands of dollars to charities of opponents, to star players being recognized league-wide for their character, the Bills are constantly a beacon of hope in the NFL.

This time around, it was a Bills employee who saw just how powerful football can be when they were shockingly mentioned during the MVP acceptance speech Josh Allen gave at the NFL Honors speech.

Allen finally won the league MVP and spoke about the other nominees who didn’t win. He also thanked the organization and pivoted to credit everyone who worked for the organization, including those in the equipment staff space a mailroom employee known as “Slick Rick.”

The mention of his name led to Slick Rick being interviewed, where he shed tears at being named on national television by Allen.

“I was happy that [Allen] had won it, and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name, I just broke down,” he said. “I’m just an average person, but when he mentioned my name it was like, ‘Oh my God, he just mentioned my name on national television!'”

Following the massive exposure of being named, Slick Rick was gifted a brand-new car after it was revealed he has been taking the bus for 15 years to do his job at the stadium.

According to reporter Jeff Russo,

“The feel-good story of “Slick Rick” continues. The West Herr Automotive Group just presented Roderick “Slick Rick” Roderick, a long-time employee of the Buffalo Bills, a Chevy Traverse. Roderick has been taking the bus to work for 15 years. “I’m overwhelmed,” says Roderick. @WKBW”

The Bills organization always appears to on the good end of heartwarming stories, and now the fan-favorite mailroom employee who was in tears after being mentioned by Allen now has a new car.

The power of sports can be a beautiful thing, and it appears that the Bills organization has once again ensured that someone’s life was changed for the better simply because of the ideals that the organization holds for its fans and employees alike.
