Once sitting at 32-14, the Rockets have gone on a 4-8 streak that has seen them slip down into the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference. Led by Jalen Green’s 25 points per game, the Rockets did pull off a 100-97 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on the first night of this back-to-back. Alperen Sengun added 23 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks for the Rockets, who won despite shooting just 40.7% from the field.
After trading for one of the league’s premier scorers in De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs intended to compete for a playoff spot this season. A season-ending injury to Wembanyama changed all of that, and now the Spurs are languishing near the bottom of the Western Conference (13th place). They lost their last game, 109-103 to the New Orleans Pelicans, despite a solid 15-point, 9-assist, 6-steal game from Fox. Chris Paul added 12 points and 12 assists, while Devin Vassell scored 20 points, but the Spurs couldn’t hold off the Pelicans, who trailed by four points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Rockets and Spurs played three times in two weeks earlier in the season, with the Rockets splitting two games in San Antonio and winning their lone game in Houston.
