Joe Alwyn Make Rare Appearance at 2025 Oscars
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Joe Alwyn is back on the red carpet.
The 34-year-old English actor stepped out at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, marking one of his most high-profile appearances since his split from Taylor Swift in April 2023. Dressed in a classic black tux with a white dress shirt and black bow tie, Alwyn added a pop of sparkle with a jeweled brooch pinned to his lapel.

Footage of the Brutalist star quickly made its way online, where the internet had plenty to say.
“Joe Alwyn killed it at the Oscars! Always on point with his red carpet looks,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“He’s literally glowing,” another pointed out.
“OMG! Taylor’s ex!!” chimed in a third.
“He always looks fine to me 🤩” someone else added.
Not everyone was sending praise, though.
“I didnt know they letting the waiters on the red carpet as well,” one user posted, comparing his tux to a waiter’s uniform.
“Looks dumb asf,” another noted.
The red carpet appearance comes just over a month after Alwyn opened up about life post-Swift. While speaking with The Guardian in January, the songwriter addressed the public’s ongoing interest in his past relationship, making it clear that he’s moved on.
“That’s something for other people to do,” he said when asked about the lingering attention on his breakup. “We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life. So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.” Alwyn also reflected on navigating fame while dating the 35-year-old “Cruel Summer” singer, adding, “I have tried just to focus on controlling what I can control. And, right from the beginning, tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course.”
Alwyn and Swift began dating in 2016 and split after six years together. Around the time their relationship came to an end, a source told People that “differences in their personalities” had become “harder to ignore after years together.” While friends initially believed they might reconcile, the source said they ultimately “weren’t the right fit for one another.” The pop superstar has since moved on with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Alwyn is presenting at this year’s ceremony, where The Brutalist is up for 10 awards, including Best Picture.
