Knicks Sign Former NBA Champion Forward to Bolster Rotation

The New York Knicks have signed a long-time NBA veteran to bolster their rotation.
NBA veteran and champion P.J. Tucker has signed a deal to join the Knicks.

Tucker, a 14-year NBA veteran, will sign a 10-day contract to give the Knicks an enforcer and frontcourt depth.
Over the last few weeks, Charania mentioned Tucker held discussions with multiple teams since being waived by the Toronto Raptors ahead of the March 1 deadline for released players to be playoff-eligible. The 39-year-old last played in May 2024 for the Los Angeles Clippers in the first-round series against the Dallas Mavericks.
After that, he spent time with the Clippers, Utah Jazz, and Raptors before he was waived in February.
In early October 2024, the Clippers released a statement stating that they and Tucker mutually agreed he would not be with the team for the time being while they worked to find him a different situation.
“P.J. is a pro who has achieved a lot in his career and there’s more he wants to accomplish,” the Clippers said in a statement. “We will continue working with P.J. and his representative to find the best situation for him moving forward.”
In early February, Tucker told Andscape how he was trying to get traded and hoped to land elsewhere.
“I want to be somewhere where I’m needed, wanted and can do it all,” Tucker told Andscape then. “I don’t know what’s going to happen but I have my fingers crossed and I’m hoping to go somewhere else, whether I get bought out and choose where I go or where I can play.”
The veteran has had a long and difficult road, but he should see a role with the Knicks, who are currently the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Tucker will join the likes of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, to name a few.
Tucker will join his eighth team of his career, which started back in 2006-07.
In his career, Tucker averages 6.6 points on 42.5 percent shooting from the field and 36.6 percent from three, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 883 games. He played a crucial role in helping the Milwaukee Bucks to their title in the 2020-21 season.
