The Rock Confirms He Will Star In New Martin Scorsese Film

While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is cooking inside of the squared circle, he’s also making major moves in Hollywood.

John Cena’s dramatic shift, forming an alliance with The Rock and shattering the trust of his fans, has fans talking. It has created a high-stakes Undisputed WWE Title clash with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.

A high-profile, untitled drama is generating significant buzz in Hollywood, with Martin Scorsese set to direct and a powerhouse cast including The Rock, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt.

The film, inspired by the true story of a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, promises to be a gripping portrayal of organized crime in the island paradise. Described as a figure reminiscent of Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas, the protagonist navigates a turbulent era, battling rival factions to seize control of the Hawaiian underworld.

The narrative delves into a bloody conflict, echoing the themes explored in Scorsese’s iconic films like Goodfellas and The Departed. Set in 1960s and 70s Hawaii, the story centers on a charismatic mob boss who builds a formidable criminal empire, fighting against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while striving to protect his ancestral land. It’s a tale of cultural survival amidst a ruthless quest for power, unfolding in the unlikely setting of paradise.

Nick Bilton is penning the screenplay, with Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn attached as producers. This project holds particular significance for Johnson, who has deep personal ties to Hawaii and has long harbored aspirations to create a film set in his ancestral homeland.

The Rock has taken to social media to confirm the project. He issued the following statement:

“Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese. In the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s the mafia-controlled New York, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, and a particularly strong hold on the island I was raised – Hawaii.”

This film marks another collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, following their critically acclaimed work on the Best Picture-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon. Their previous collaborations include The Aviator, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Johnson and Blunt, who previously shared the screen in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, are also set to reunite in A24’s Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie, which is slated for release later this year.

Johnson and Blunt brought Scorsese and DiCaprio the initial concept for the film, which was met with immediate enthusiasm. With Nick Bilton now writing the screenplay, the project is rapidly advancing towards development.
