Cruz Azul sits atop the Liga MX standings, with a 21-7-3 record, their 70 points putting them five clear of second-place Toluca. They’re led by a trio of goal scorers, with Angel Sepulveda (13), Ignacia Rivero (10), and Carlos Rotondi (10) all doing their part. Cruz Azul hasn’t lost in their last seven Liga MX matches, with five wins and two draws. Their last contest was a 3-2 win at home over UNAM, with Rotondi finding the back of the net in the 28th and 61st minutes of the match.
America boasts the third-best goal differential in Liga MX (plus-26), which has been good enough to secure a record of 17-6-8, placing them fourth in the table. 32-year-old Mexican forward Henry Martin leads the team in both goals (9) and assists (9), with Brian Rodriguez (8 goals) and Alejandro Zendejas (7 goals) not far behind. America is coming off of a 1-0 loss to Pachuca, with Salomon Rondon scoring the game’s only goal in the 20th minute.
These teams are very familiar with each other, having faced off three times in the last seven months, with each side winning one contest and the third ending in a draw.
