LIV Golf’s ‘The Duels’ Embarrasses PGA Tour Creator Classic
LIV Golf may have discovered the secret to working with YouTube creators with their latest collaboration.
Do not show the product live on television.
The Saudi-backed league worked with Grant Horvat, who won the Creator Classic at The PLAYERS Championship, on a video called ‘The Duels.’
It was not exactly like the Creator Classic that the PGA Tour unveiled last year at the Tour Championship. Instead of just the creators taking on a championship-level golf course, they played alongside a LIV Golf star.
The groups filmed the video last week at LIV Miami, which Horvat published on Saturday. In 24 hours, the video amassed over a million views, while the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic took three-plus weeks to reach that mark.
It is challenging to compare the two videos, but the PGA Tour executives in charge should be frustrated.

The PGA Tour broadcasted the Creator Classic live at TPC Sawgrass and streamed it on YouTube simultaneously.
Meanwhile, LIV Golf and Horvat filmed, edited, and then published their content. It is not the same, but they deserve some credit. Getting any video to a million views in 24 hours is impressive.
At one point, during the Classic at TPC Sawgrass, over 83,000 people streamed it live on YouTube. The television ratings have not been released for that specific event, but the PGA Tour continues to have far more television viewers than LIV Golf.
The second Creator Classic was not as popular as the first one in Atlanta. That video has over 2.7 million views on YouTube.
LIV Golf is onto something, and they went with a smarter route.
Polishing up the coverage and removing the lulls create an easier viewing experience and a better YouTube product. It got more attention, too. He published the video at 9 a.m. on Saturday, one of the best times to push out content.
There are so many elements that go into being successful on YouTube and posting time is a massive one.
Maybe the PGA Tour can take some notes from ‘The Duels’ and make their YouTube golf product even more popular.
A switch-up may be necessary if they want people to keep watching the next two Creator Classics.
