Suns’ Kevin Durant Ruled Out for Rest of Season
15-time All-Star Phoenix Suns power forward Kevin Durant has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season with a left ankle sprain, per Underdog NBA.

Granted, that’s just two more games, and the Suns have already been eliminated from postseason contention anyway, but it’s still ominous news for the superstar big man’s health.

According to a recent league injury report, the 35-45 Suns will be relatively healthy for their impending home showdown against another already-eliminated Western Conference club, the San Antonio Spurs (33-47).
Only Durant and starting center Nick Richards are on the shelf for the Suns.
The Spurs’ health picture is less, well, sunny.
All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox (left fifth finger extensor tendon surgery), All-Star center Victor Wembanyama (right shoulder deep vein thrombosis), forward Jeremy Sochan (low back inflammation), shooting guard Devin Vassell (left ankle soreness), wing Keldon Johnson (left ankle soreness), and small forward Riley Minix (left shoulder labrum surgery) are all out for Friday night’s game.

Despite bringing in former 2021 champion head coach Mike Budenholzer (replacing former 2020 champion Frank Vogel, who lasted all of one year) and enjoying mostly healthy seasons from Durant and fellow All-Star Devin Booker, the Suns submitted a miserable campaign this season.

Oft-hurt combo guard Bradley Beal proved to be an awkward fit during his second year on the team, and occasionally found himself benched by Budenholzer as the club struggled to build chemistry.
More Phoenix Suns News: NBA Insider Says Kevin Durant Trade Could Save Mavericks From Luka Doncic Drama
Things have been so grizzly for Phoenix this season that many pundits and fans alike view an offseason Durant trade as borderline inevitable.
The 6-foot-11 big man, 36, will be on an expiring $54.7 million contract heading into the 2025-26 season, and could help foster a robust trade market despite having now seemingly burned through three franchises (the Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and now Suns) in six years.
Beal, shockingly, is one of just two players in the league with a no-trade clause baked into his contract. The other is Los Angeles Lakers All-Star power forward LeBron James who, despite being 40, is still much better than Bradley Beal. Owed $53.7 million in 2025-26, Beal is likely stuck on the Suns unless he forces his way out.
Durant finishes his season in Phoenix with averages of 26.6 points on .527/.430/.839 shooting splits, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists across 62 games.
The anticlimactic contest between two West also-rans missing three All-Stars tips off at 7 p.m. PT.
