Another Judge Temporarily Bars Trump from Retaliating Against Law Firm
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
A federal judge on Tuesday temporarily blocked key parts of former President Donald Trump‘s executive order that barred the federal government from doing business with anyone who hires the law firm Susman Godfrey. The ruling marks the fourth time a court has found Trump’s efforts to punish legal firms he opposes are likely unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan issued the temporary restraining order in favor of Susman Godfrey, which previously represented a voting machine company that secured a $787 million settlement from Fox News over false claims related to the 2020 election.
In her decision, AliKhan called the executive order “a shocking abuse of power” that would have alarmed the framers of the Constitution. Trump’s order explicitly cited the firm’s involvement in election-related litigation as grounds for the ban.
While several targeted firms have settled by agreeing to provide free legal services for causes aligned with Trump’s agenda, Susman and at least three others chose to challenge the order in court—and have prevailed in each case so far.
