Commanders Coach Drops Honest Terry McLaurin Comment
As the mandatory minicamp approached for the Washington Commanders, many questioned if the star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, would show up and participate amid his ongoing contract dispute.
On Tuesday, the public got their answers. It wasn’t shocking to see that McLaurin was not present for day one of the minicamp. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, McLaurin does not plan to attend any of the sessions as the contract discussions have not resulted in any progress for the time being.
Ahead of the Commanders’ first session, the team’s head coach, Dan Quinn, addressed the media and faced immediate questions surrounding the situation with McLaurin now that it’s revealed he’s a holdout for the time being.
“The good news is lots of rapport has been built,” Quinn told reporters, explaining the potential fallout of McLaurin missing time with the offense in the offseason.
“Sometimes football and business intersect. This is one of those times. Terry is a fantastic teammate.”

Despite the concerns surrounding McLaurin as his lack of a new deal, the Commanders don’t seem overly worried at this time. Quinn clearly feels like McLaurin has done enough to earn his teammate’s respect and understanding during this awkward period of the year.
As for the Commanders’ star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, he recently spoke on the situation and made it known that he’s in a great place with his top wideout.
“Me and Terry have a good relationship outside of football,” Daniels told reporters recently.
“Obviously, he has to handle what he has to handle, but that doesn’t change anything, the fact that he is part of our brotherhood. We know Terry is working and everything. We have to get better, and he knows he has to get better each and every day.”

Last season, McLaurin had the opportunity to be a primary weapon for Daniels, who was putting together an award-winning rookie campaign. In 17 games, McLaurin caught 82 of his 117 targets. He finished the regular season with 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. In the playoffs, McLaurin caught 14 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns across three games.
Although McLaurin was already a clear-cut primary target before Daniels walked into the building, the two built up a stellar connection throughout the 2024 season. The Commanders haven’t locked in the duo long-term just yet, but perhaps McLaurin’s skip tactic forces the front office’s hand to get something done soon. The team anticipates being without the star receiver for the next two days before another break goes into place.
