Jets’ Sauce Gardner Speaks Out About Future in New York

The New York Jets are hoping to see a major bounce-back in 2025 after another disappointing season in 2024. A lot of things look different, including Justin Fields being the new starting quarterback and Aaron Glenn being the team’s head coach, but there are still some key pieces from previous years.
One of those key pieces is none other than star cornerback Sauce Gardner. He is still looking to help turn the Jets back into a serious playoff contender.
While he’s preparing for the upcoming 2025 season, Gardner does have a contract situation that will need to be addressed. He’s heading into the final year of his contract in 2026 and an extension could happen at anytime.

Where do the two sides stand when it comes to an extension? No one truly knows, but Gardner has supplied an update.

New York Post beat reporter Brian Costello has shared an update from what Gardner said about his contract situation.
“Sauce Gardner says he feels good about the contract talks with the Jets,” Costello wrote on X. “Said his focus is on football. He’s letting his agents handle the talks.”
Gardner has been an elite cornerback for New York. Many view him as one of the best cover corners in the NFL.
During the 2024 NFL season, Gardner played in 15 games. He racked up 49 total tackles to go along with a sack, an interception, and nine defended passes.
Throughout his entire 48-game career through three years, he has totaled 181 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, three interceptions, and 41 defended passes.
In order to keep him around long-term, the Jets are going to need to pay up. His contract is not going to come cheap, but the franchise needs to keep him long-term.

He chose to attend mandatory minicamp. There are many players around the NFL who skip, but Gardner spoke out about why he decided to show up.
“Man, I just wanted to show my teammates, show the coaches how much I’m bought into this,” Gardner said. “I want to win. I want to change the organization, I want to be a part of change in the organization.”
Between his skill and those kinds of comments, New York should do everything in its power to get a deal done in the near future with the young star cornerback.
