The Twins are battling for position in their playoff race right now, and it may not seem like they are going to be in a position to move Buxton at the deadline. But there is still plenty of baseball to play before then, and one bad stretch for the Twins could have them looking at an entirely different situation.
Buxton is under contract until 2028 and has a full no-trade clause in effect until then. If the Twins decided to put Buxton on the block, he would be able to pick where he would be for the remainder of his prime.
The Phillies are primed to compete for the next couple of seasons, including the opportunity at a deep run this season; these could be very attractive factors to Buxton.
While the Phillies need a centerfielder, they have been fine without one thus far but have been unable to get over the hump in October. Buxton has faced his fair share of injuries during his career, but when he is on the field, the team knows what to expect of him.
Buxton is tearing it up this season, hitting .280 with 15 home runs. If he were to land in the lineup surrounded by Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber, Buxton would thrive hitting with protection.
While the Twins may not be in a position to trade Buxton now, he certainly is an enticing trade piece when the trade deadline arrives.
