Grandma Babysits Golden Retriever, Internet Not Prepared for Cuteness

A golden retriever named Bear has captured hearts across the internet after being thoroughly spoiled by her grandma while her owners were away.

Lauren Burgess (@goldenbearjane), 23, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, shared on TikTok how her 2-year-old golden retriever stayed with her mom for two weeks while she and her fiancé were traveling. One highlight of Bear’s stay? A spontaneous trip to the ice cream truck—a moment that went viral, racking up over 565,500 likes and 2.3 million views.

“I couldn’t bare putting her in a kennel to fly in the plane. My mom always tells me that when she watches her that she tries to make it fun since she does work and knows she’s not used to being alone at all. She tries to do super fun stuff with her while she’s there,” Burgess told Newsweek.

The now-viral clip shows Burgess’s mom treating Bear to a Ninja Turtle puppy lolly. The golden retriever pants excitedly before sitting patiently and adorably licking her ice cream.

“The ice cream truck usually skips our street since it’s pretty quiet and no children live on,” Burgess explained. But on this particular day, when her mom was outside watering plants and heard the truck’s music, she rushed inside to grab some money.

“My face lit up when she sent me the video and I probably watched it over 100 times. During her stay with my mom, my mom’s also taking her to work, to get ice cream, to run simple errands, to swim in her pool. They shared chicken strips the other day—she’s being spoiled,” she added.

Bear, described by Burgess as a “very well behaved and happy dog,” is no stranger to pampering, especially since Burgess works from home. But grandma’s love took it to another level.

TikTok users couldn’t get enough of the wholesome moment, flooding the comments with admiration—and relatable stories.

“I’m so glad the grammas are embracing their granddogs cause no one wants kids,” said Shannon.

“This is a sign for all ice cream trucks to have puppy ice cream,” shared another user.

“Cries in my dad told me the music meant they were out of ice cream,” one viewer joked.

“I love how our parents have just accepted our dogs as grandchildren instead of having actual children (at least for me),” added Kacie.

“I did this for my dog and yeah there was no pup cup option but the truck that came thru luckly had one of those little vanilla cups with the wooden spoon we would get in elementary school lol so I was like perfect one of those please,” said Amber.

“Moms don’t have ice cream truck money when you’re a kid. But as soon as they get a granddog they got ice cream truck money,” added Stephanie.
