Commanders Star Considered ‘Perfect’ Raiders Trade Target
Where are the Washington Commanders at with their star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin?
The veteran pass-catcher wants a new deal in place, but the Commanders have yet to meet his demands. With training camp around the corner, the Commanders will have to get something done in order to ensure McLaurin is in the mix when they reach the most important time of the offseason.
A recent update from an NFL Insider suggests that the situation is not close to getting resolved at this time.
“They have a lot of work to do,” writes NFL Insider Albert Breer.
“I’d expect that work will pick up again when the league comes back from break in a few weeks. But it’s still not in a great place. So we’ll see what happens—there’s plenty of time to get something done.”
On one hand, training camp is still a month away. The Commanders have several weeks to get on the same page with the star wideout. On the other hand, the longer they wait, the more frustrating the situation becomes for the player’s side. Do the Commanders really want to keep their top wide receiver unhappy while entering the second season of the Jayden Daniels era?

Fortunately, it seems that McLaurin and Daniels have maintained good communication and a close relationship throughout the offseason. When Daniels spome on the situation earlier in the offseason, he made it clear he understands the business side is taking its course.
“Me and Terry have a good relationship outside of football,” Daniels told reporters earlier this month. “Obviously, he has to handle what he has to handle, but that doesn’t change anything, the fact that he is part of our brotherhood. We know Terry is working and everything. We have to get better, and he knows he has to get better each and every day.”
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn echoed a similar sentiment when he met with reporters ahead of Washington’s mandatory minicamp sessions a couple of weeks back. While it’s unfortunate for the Commanders that McLaurin was not with the team for the sessions, they understood.
McLaurin remains a name to keep an eye on as the offseason continues. While the situation hasn’t reached its breaking point, there still seems to be a lack of positive movement. What if that breaking point looks like a trade in the future?
Recently, Fox Sports’ David Helman tabbed the Las Vegas Raiders as a “perfect” trade candidate for McLaurin.
“If I’m dreaming up a perfect landing spot for McLaurin, Vegas really sounds fun,” Helman wrote.
“Talk about a big swing for a team that hasn’t had a lot to get excited about. The Raiders are already in decent shape for Geno Smith’s first season. Brock Bowers is a star, and Ashton Jeanty should be one soon. Jakobi Meyers is a solid receiver, but Vegas still needs to upgrade its receiver room. Rather than take your chances in the draft, why not ship a pick or two to Washington and lock in McLaurin for the rest of his prime?”
The NFL writer makes it clear that he buys into the reports that the Commanders are still expected to get something done with McLaurin. Time will tell if that’s truly the case or not.
