In the quarterfinals, Italy took down the United States in three sets, winning 25-22, 25-21, and 28-26. Meanwhile, Poland had a tougher time against China, with the match going to five sets. After losing two of the first three sets, Poland stormed back, winning 25-19 to even things up, and ultimately taking the final set 15-12.
Italy was the leader in the preliminary round, winning all 12 of its matches. Poland won nine of its 12 matches in the preliminary round.
This is the seventh FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League tournament, but a format change this year has eliminated the relegation step, with the tournament expanding to 18 teams this year. The United States dominated early in the tournament’s existence, winning the first three events, but Italy has stepped up since, winning two of the past three Nations Leagues.
