Last week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, rookie sensation Connor Zilisch won his third consecutive race. If he hadn’t missed a race due to injury, the regular-season points battle might already be his. As it stands, Zilisch is 21 points behind teammate and defending Xfinity champion Justin Allgaier. Zilisch has a series-high five wins.
One major storyline this week is the suspension of Austin Hill, who has three wins this season and sits fifth in points. Hill intentionally wrecked Aric Almirola last weekend and was handed a one-race suspension by NASCAR. Austin Dillon will drive the No. 21 car.
Hill missing the race will give drivers behind him a chance to make a move toward the top five in the standings, with Brandon Jones currently in sixth and Carson Kvapil in seventh.
Last year, Sam Mayer won his race, leading 47 laps. Riley Herbst, Corey Heim, Sammy Smith, and Sheldon Creeded rounded out the top five.
Iowa Speedway is a 0.875-mile short track that opened in 2006. The asphalt track has been owned by NASCAR since 2013 and hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race in 2024. It has hosted the Xfinity Series
