Lakers’ LeBron James Doesn’t Hold Back About Luka Doncic
The Los Angeles Lakers will enter the 2025-26 NBA season with LeBron James and Luka Doncic leading them. After an offseason full of rumors, the two superstars remain teammates and will look to power the proud franchise back to NBA Finals contention.
James was a hot topic of conversation throughout the offseason. His future with the Lakers was called into question on multiple occasions.
Despite the rumors, James appears likely to play out the final year of his contract with Los Angeles. He could leave town to play elsewhere after the 2025-26 campaign, he could re-sign, or he could retire, but he’ll begin the year with the Lakers.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered about the fit between James and Doncic. It wasn’t bad last season, but the end result wasn’t ideal.

With that being said, James recently spoke out about his teammate. He revealed what he loves about Doncic and didn’t hold back.
“I JUST LOVE the way he approaches the game. I love the way he plays the game. More importantly, man, he’s just a great (expletive) guy,” James said. “Big-time savant of the game. I always use IQ as a measuring point in basketball—guys who can think the game. There are so many guys in our league who can play the game, but to be able to think the game as well puts you at another level.”
Even though there were offseason rumors about the two stars not liking the fit with each other, James’ comments throw a wrench in those rumors.
At 40 years old, James is starting to wind down his NBA career. However, he’s still playing like one of the best stars in the game.
During the 2024-25 season, James averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal per game over 70 appearances. He shot 51.3 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from the three-point line.

Doncic, on the other hand, played in 28 regular season games with Los Angeles, putting up averages of 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.6 steals.
All eyes will be on James and Doncic this season. If nothing else, James clearly has a lot of love and respect for Doncic’s game. Hopefully, that will result in wins on the court.
