Golden State packed most of its offseason activity into a whirlwind 14-hour stretch last week, re-signing restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and adding veterans Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, and Seth Curry.
The Warriors are coming off a 48-win season that included a play-in victory over the second-seeded Houston Rockets before falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Two-time MVP Stephen Curry, now 37, remains the heartbeat of the team after another All-NBA campaign as the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers and free-throw percentage. Horford is expected to take over the starting center role following Kevon Looney’s departure to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Portland’s offseason, meanwhile, was full of surprises. After going 23–18 in the second half of last season, the Trail Blazers traded Anfernee Simons to Boston for veteran guard Jrue Holiday and reunited with franchise legend Damian Lillard, who returned after being bought out by Milwaukee. Lillard, however, will miss the season as he recovers from a torn Achilles. The Blazers also made headlines at the draft, trading down to select 20-year-old Chinese center Yang Hansen with the 16th overall pick—a move many analysts considered a reach.
The Warriors won their preseason opener on Sunday, handing on for a 111-103 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers after leading by as much as 24 points. Moses Moody scored 19 points in 15 minutes of action.
This is a great NBA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
