Steelers Reunite With 24-Year-Old LB After Losing 2 Players at Position

The Pittsburgh Steelers are always built on what they do on the defensive side of the football. If a player wants to win playing time for head coach Mike Tomlin, they have to do what’s needed on that side.

To start the year, the Steelers have been decent defensively, allowing the 10th fewest yards overall, and the 12th fewest throwing touchdowns.

While things look somewhat promising on that front, the Steelers have also faced other challenges and decided to take matters into their own hands.

According to a report from Steelers Insider Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com, Pittsburgh has re-signed inside linebacker Jacoby Windmon to the practice squad. Windmon has been with the organization in the past, joining the team out of Michigan State in 2024.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed inside linebacker Jacoby Windmon to their practice squad.

“Windmon will help offset a pair of losses at the position for the Steelers this week, as Ja’Whaun Bentley was released and Jon Rhattigan was signed off their practice squad by the Las Vegas Raiders,” he wrote.

Throughout his brief and young NFL career, he hasn’t posted many statistics in games, but he had 13 solo tackles and 1.5 sacks in eight games played for the Carolina Panthers a year ago.

While certainly not elite, Windmon could be helpful if a player goes down.

The Steelers had a bye week in Week 5, but will have a tough contest on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are 1-4 and haven’t played well to start the year, but any game in the AFC North is a difficult one. The Browns have proven that plenty over the past few years.

The Steelers are in first place in the division, sitting at 3-1. After this game against the Browns, things won’t get much easier with the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers coming up.

Perhaps at some point in one of those games, Windmon will be activated to the roster.
