Mom Taking a Shower Hears Loud Thumps From Upstairs—Shock at What She Finds
A mom of four was curious to find out where the “loud thumps” were coming from outside her bathroom, but nothing prepared her for what she saw.
Kelly Robson (@k.raycollective) posted a reel on Instagram to reveal what happened when she opened the door wrapped in a towel.
Robson, from Los Angeles, California, told Newsweek she “immediately exited the shower” to investigate.
She was shocked by what she saw next. Her four boys were scaling the walls of the bathroom hallway, then dropping and flipping to the ground once they reached the top.
“Luckily, they were smart enough to pull all the blankets and throw pillows off my master bed to use as a crash pad,” Robson said. “I don’t know if I should applaud the concern for safety or lose my mind,” she continued in her reel caption. “The joys of raising boys.”
Robson, who grew up with three sisters and one brother, said raising boys has been a learning curve. “They have a completely different energy than girls,” she added.
Studies show parents are generally more tolerant of risky play, such as climbing and jumping, when it comes to boys than girls.
Parents tend to perceive less need to safeguard boys, encouraging more adventurous risky behaviors, according to a 2024 cross-sectional study published in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.
Robson’s reel has been viewed 5.4 million times on Instagram. Hundreds of users related to the chaos of raising boys in the comments.
“OMG! Boy mom too, and I’m still trying to understand this masculine mind,” one user wrote.
“People with no kids most likely don’t realize this… but it’s not the noise and thumping which scares me. It’s when they go silent,” another said.
“Main challenge of raising boys is making sure they reach adulthood alive and mostly intact,” a third commented.
“Brings back memories!! Mom of three boys, and they still do wild stunts as men,” another wrote.
Many others applauded the boys for thinking of their safety first.
“At least they piled up your good pillows, and blankets, so they had something soft to land on!” one said.
“I mean at least they put down pillows! Safety first, right?” another joked.
The reaction to her reel? “Boy moms feel seen,” Robson said.
