Alyssa Farah Griffin under scrutiny over Trump remarks on “The View”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former top aide to President Donald Trump and current co-host of The View, has come under fire over her resurfaced comments about MAGA.
Griffin previously promised to wear a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat on the ABC show if Trump succeeded in securing the release of Israeli hostages from Hamas.
Newsweek reached out to Griffin’s representative via email for comment on Tuesday.
Why It Matters
The war between Israel and Hamas began just over two years ago on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel. Around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage. According to the Associated Press, approximately 11 percent of Gaza’s population has since been killed or injured.
Griffin previously worked as the White House Communications Director under Trump, served as the press secretary to Vice President Mike Pence and was the press secretary for the United States Department of Defense. The television personality—who recently announced she’s expecting her first child with husband Justin Griffin in February—has been both critical and complimentary of her ex-boss since leaving her position. While she recently praised him for proposing a $5,000 baby bonus, she once said he was “wholly unfit to be in office.”
What To Know
On Monday, Trump signed a peace declaration, and all 20 of the surviving Israeli hostages in Gaza were released.
Griffin praised the peace deal on the October 13 episode of The View, stating: “Whether you like Trump or not, I think he, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner deserve credit for this deal.
“If this peace deal holds, which I pray that it does, it’s historic, it is a massive diplomatic achievement, and I think the whole world can breathe a sigh of relief,” the 36-year-old said.
Griffin later shared a video of her remarks to social media, adding in the caption: “My reflections on the peace deal between Israel & Hamas. The President & his team deserve tremendous credit for this historic diplomatic achievement, the return of the hostages, & end to bloodshed. Pray this peace holds.”
In January, Griffin had declared on The View that if Trump “gets the Israeli hostages out, I promise I will wear a MAGA hat for one day on this show and say, ‘Thank you for doing it.'” She continued: “You have to be able to cheer for wins when they happen and then call out relentlessly the wrongdoings.”
What People Are Saying
The clip of Griffin from January has been making the rounds on social media by MAGA supporters following the hostages’ release.
Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., wrote in a comment via X with 3.7 million views and 178,000 likes: “Sending this to the top. Let’s go.”
Conservative commentator Collin Rugg shared in a message on X with 1 million views and 25,000 likes: “Do it, @Alyssafarah.”
Political strategist CJ Pearson, who appeared on the TIME100 Creators List this year, added in a remark on X with 274,200 views and 22,000 likes: “We’re all waiting @Alyssafarah!”
John Rich, one half of the country music duo Big & Rich, said in a note on X with 90,500 views and 4,700 likes: “She’ll never do it…”
What Happens Next
At the time of publication, Griffin had not donned the MAGA cap on-air.
