Seahawks Named Team to Watch in Trade for $73.6 Million Defensive Star
The Seattle Seahawks have gotten off to a strong start to the 2025 NFL season. Through the first six weeks of the year, the team holds a 4-2 record.
Led by first-year starting quarterback Sam Darnold, the Seahawks look like a potential contender in the NFC. However, there are some clear holes that could be filled. That could lead to some changes being made ahead of the deadline.
Where could Seattle look to improve? Defensively, there are some areas that could use some touching up.

At the safety position, the Seahawks have room for improvement. With that in mind, an intriguing suggestion has been made for a potential trade target they could look into.
CBS Sports analyst Garrett Podell has come up with a very intriguing potential target for Seattle. He believes that Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick could be a possible option.
“Why not versatile, five-time Pro Bowler Minkah Fitzpatrick? The Dolphins are 1-5 and could be the next team to fire its head coach, which would trigger a clear rebuild,” Podell wrote. “The Seahawks should swoop in at the opportunity to add a fun chess piece for coach Mike Macdonald to deploy on his defense in a year where the NFC looks open as ever.”
Fitzpatrick was traded to the Dolphins just ahead of the 2025 season getting underway. He was included in a trade that sent both Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith back to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Miami struggling this season, it would not be shocking to see him traded again.
So far with the Dolphins, Fitzpatrick has played in six games and has totaled 38 tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and five defended passes.
At 28 years old, Fitzpatrick could become a long-term piece in the Seahawks’ secondary. He currently has one year left on his contract following the 2025 campaign. Seattle would have him in place for the rest of 2025 and all of 2026 without getting a new deal done with him.

Of course, if things worked out after a potential trade, a likely outcome would be a contract extension to keep him in town.
It will be interesting to see how aggressive the Seahawks get ahead of the deadline. They have not actually been connected to a potential trade for Fitzpatrick, but the idea makes a lot of sense and is something to keep an eye on.
