Eagles Legend Shares Bold Dak Prescott Take Amid Cowboys Struggles
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise frustrating season for the team through the first six weeks of the season. Because of this, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had no choice but to give Prescott his flowers, despite the longstanding Eagles-Cowboys rivalry.
Prescott has arguably overcome more adversity than any quarterback in the NFL this season. Despite being without CeeDee Lamb and the vast majority of his starting offensive linemen over the past few weeks, the Cowboys offense has not skipped a beat, averaging the most yards per game in all of football thus far this season and the third-most points per game.
Unfortunately, the success of the Cowboys’ offense has been overshadowed by the brutal play of their defense, which has allowed the most yards per game in football and the second-most points. As a result, the Cowboys find themselves on the outside looking in on the NFC playoff picture.

That doesn’t mean that Prescott shouldn’t receive major props for his play thus far, according to Donovan McNabb, who wasn’t afraid to explain how he believes Prescott has been the most impactful player in all of football thus far.
“Dak, first of all, has no defense whatsoever,” said McNabb during an appearance on “Up & Adams”, sharing his top five MVP candidates list, which saw Prescott at No. 1. “CeeDee Lamb has been hurt, they have been mismatching different guys. It’s pretty much just been him. They are running the football, yes, but their play-action game and intermediate passing game has been on fire. The reason they are in the position they are is because of Dak.”

You rarely see a player on a team with a losing record get the kind of recognition in the MVP race. After all, everyone else on McNabb’s list comes from teams with just one or two losses on the season.
That being said, when you look at what Prescott has really done with the tools around him, it is truly hard to disagree with McNabb’s take on the matter.
Not only have the Cowboys been one of the very best offenses in football thus far, but Prescott has also excelled individually, completing 71.6 percent of his passes, the fourth-highest completion percentage in all of football. As far as the passer rating goes, Prescott sits behind just Daniel Jones, who finds himself in a far better situation with a plethora of talent around him in Indianapolis.
If Prescott can continue this kind of play moving forward, it will be hard to deny him of being squarely in the running for an MVP. Though it would certainly help his case if the Cowboys can turn things around as a team, a task that will begin with a Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
