The Dallas Cowboys secured a big win on Sunday in front of their home fans, defeating the Washington Commanders 44-22 to improve to 3-3-1.
It was one of the defense’s best performances of the year, and they did it without star cornerback Trevon Diggs, who suffered a concussion in a bizarre off-field accident at his home just before the weekend.
After the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media about Diggs’ incident and provided an optimistic update on his timeline to return, despite not having seen him since the injury occurred.
“First of all, we want to make sure that no rules have been violated that would hurt the person or the team — things like law enforcement, those kinds of rules,” Jones said.
“To answer your question, no, I don’t go looking it up at all. I see what’s given to me, and I’m satisfied with that. Frankly, I’m satisfied with what any player tells me until we get to the point where I’m not,” Jones added. “I haven’t had a doctor’s report, but I don’t think the nature of his injury is something that would keep him out for multiple weeks. I think it will possibly be behind us this week. This is not a smoking gun deal—he had an accident, and I’m good with that. He’ll be back out here playing… and we need him.”

Diggs was immediately placed into concussion protocol following the off-field accident.
Once he clears the protocol, he will likely be cleared to return to action — a process that can take anywhere from a few days to multiple weeks, depending on the severity of the injury and the healing process.
Diggs has had a rocky season so far. While he’s shown glimpses of his old form, he was briefly benched earlier this year by head coach Brian Schottenheimer and has recorded zero takeaways — an uncommon feat for a player known for his playmaking ability.
If he is able to return in Week 8, it will be for a major showdown at Mile High Stadium against the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
