Truck Driver Plows Through California Traffic, 3 Killed in Suspected DUI

The man who crashed his tractor-trailer into other vehicles Tuesday on a California highway, a wreck in which three people were killed, has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh, 21, who authorities say was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident, KTLA 5 News reported.

Newsweek contacted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) via email seeking comment.

Witnesses said the tractor-trailer with a red cab crashed into the back of several vehicles, including another big rig, before careening into another lane and striking several more. The aftermath was seen in video captured by Sky5 on scene.

KTLA cited CHP as saying Singh did not hit his brakes as his truck bore down on the slow-moving vehicles ahead of him before to the crash. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The fiery California wreck comes weeks after a truck driver from India killed three people in Florida as he was making an illegal U-turn, police said.
