FSU’s Mike Norvell Issues Serious Warning to Team Amid Calls for his Firing
Florida State University is entering its bye in Week 9 after losing four games in a row. The Seminoles were ranked as high as No. 7 this season, and pulled off a major upset at the beginning of the season when they defeated then-No. 8 Alabama 31-17 in Week 1.

However, four straight losses in ACC play have head coach Mike Norvell under fire from the fan base. FSU athletic director Michael Alford released a statement on Monday confirming that the program has faith in Norvell to finish the remainder of the regular season, but cautioned the Noles would make a “comprehensive assessment” before 2026.
The Seminoles have five games remaining in the regular season and will next host 4-2 Wake Forest on Nov. 1.

Per On3, Norvell had a warning for his team before their schedule in November, suggesting the team needed to focus and show up to play football at a high level, or even less talented programs can beat FSU.
“I believe in this team,” Norvell said. “I do believe in the talent that we have. I believe in the young men, the coaches, the way that we will finish. But, it’s I know what we’re capable of, and I also know that we’re capable of giving others opportunities if we’re not our best.
“We’ve got to go out there and play complementary Florida State football being the best we can be. We’re still going to see some close games. Some ups and downs are gonna show up,” Norvell said. “But if we’ll stay true to that, I’m very, very confident in what the final result will be as we continue to move forward.”
FSU’s most humbling loss of the season came in Week 8 when they dropped a 20-13 contest to a previously 2-4 Stanford program with an interim head coach.
The Noles upset the Crimson Tide and came within one score of taking down then-No. 3 Miami, but Florida State has been unable to take care of business against less competition in Virginia, Pittsburgh and the Cardinals.
FSU has five more games to try and finish 8-4, but even that might not be enough to keep Norvell in Tallahassee.
