Lane Kiffin Responds to Backlash Over Postgame Behavior vs Oklahoma
Lane Kiffin and the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels notched an impressive road victory on Saturday, taking down the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners 34-26 in Norman.
With the big SEC victory, the Rebels improved to 7-1 this season and 4-1 in conference play. After the final whistle blew at Memorial Stadium, Kiffin made some headlines for his postgame behavior toward an Oklahoma player.
While on the microphone for his postgame interview with ESPN, the Ole Miss head coach called over to Sooners defensive lineman David Stone.
“You’re a little quieter now than before,” Kiffin said. “… This guy yelled at me during the game, like, five times how great they were and we can’t score on them.”
Kiffin received some criticism on social media for this behavior after the Rebels’ seventh win of the season.
During his postgame press conference, the 50-year-old head coach justified his decision to publicly call out Stone.
“That’s just me.” Kiffin said. “I mean, he was talking the whole game to me and I did a good job, I felt, of not talking back. He just kept telling me, ‘You ain’t gonna score’ and all this.
“I didn’t go try to find him. He was just walking by so I just saw him… That’s just kind of me.”
Kiffin’s offense amassed 431 yards of total offense in Saturday’s win over Oklahoma. Star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss finished the game with 315 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions on 24 of 44 passing, and running back Kewan Lacy led the way on the ground with 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
The Rebels’ offense has been elite through the first eight games of the 2025 season, averaging 484.3 yards and 37.0 points contest. The team’s only loss of the year came with last week’s narrow defeat against Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
Kiffin and Ole Miss now turn their attention toward a matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks this coming Saturday.
