The Philadelphia Phillies will likely be on the market for an outfielder this offseason with Nick Castellanos likely on the outs.
Philadelphia’s outfield was not contributing to the offense as much as the organization would have hoped this season, especially in the playoffs. This an area the team hopes to address this offseason, but the potential departure of All-Star Kyle Schwarber in free agency could have the Phillies in need of another slugger.
One player that could fill both needs for the Phillies would be New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham. Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer listed Philadelphia as the best fit to land the 28-year-old outfielder in free agency and believes he could become a star on a new team.
“As good as Trent Grisham was this year, there’s only so much anyone can stand out when sharing a lineup with Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Simply on that account, he stands to raise his profile by leaving the Yankees this winter,” Rymer wrote Saturday. “The Phillies have to switch things up with their roster, and they would do well to start with an outfield that produced only 2.1 rWAR this year.
“With Harrison Bader looking at free agency and Nick Castellanos likely on the outs, they certainly have a window to do so. Grisham would fit nicely in center field in Philadelphia, and Citizens Bank Park needs no introduction as a hitter’s haven. For lefties in particular, it’s the best home run park in the league.”
Grisham had the best season of his career this year for New York. The 28-year-old slashed .235/.348/.464, mashing 34 home runs with 74 RBIs, both career highs for the slugger. Grisham’s wouldn’t be that expensive, with a projected market value of roughly $12 million a year, according to Spotrac. Grisham would be a great addition to the Phillies.
