The Dallas Cowboys entered Week 8’s matchup with the Denver Broncos riding the momentum of a dominant 44-22 victory over the Washington Commanders, but their week-to-week inconsistencies continue to haunt them.
Dallas fell to the Broncos 44-24 and had no answers defensively for Denver’s offense, either through the air or on the ground, as Bo Nix threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns. The Broncos also rushed for 179 yards, led by J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey, who added two touchdowns of his own.
Now sitting at 3-4-1, Jones had a harsh message about the current state of the team and their performance through the first eight games of the regular season.
“Well, I’m not happy with winning three ballgames at all,” Jones said. “Can we play better? Of course we can play better. We all saw the same thing out there [against Denver]. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”

The Cowboys’ defense has been, by far, their biggest flaw this season. Not only have they allowed 20-plus points in every single game, but they’ve also given up 30 or more in five of those contests — and 40-plus twice — making it extremely difficult to win consistently when all the pressure falls on the offense to score every time it steps on the field.
When asked about the upcoming trade deadline on Nov. 4, Jones emphasized that the organization is always looking for ways to improve and is “looking hard” if the right opportunity presents itself.
“In general, I’d say that we are looking hard at how to improve,” he said. “We’re looking hard at the deadline coming up. It’s a time for movement. If something is available there, we certainly have the ability [to make moves].”
The Cowboys are scheduled to host the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football this week before heading into their bye. After that, they’ll face the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, and Kansas City Chiefs to close out the month of November.
