Steelers to Sign Former Super Bowl Champion WR With Aaron Rodgers Ties
One of the weakest aspects of the Pittsburgh Steelers is in the wide receiver department. Though the team has DK Metcalf, no other receiver has stepped up in a big way. Now, the Steelers have landed a former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl champion receiver.

It would be expected that the Steelers will sign more firepower before the trade deadline, but the team has already made a big move to sign a former Super Bowl champion receiver.
Per Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers are bringing in Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who not only played for the Chiefs and won two Super Bowls, but he also has ties with Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers was throwing the ball to Valdes-Scantling when they played together during the 2018 to 2021 seasons. During that time, Valdes-Scantling caught 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Valdes-Scantling would go on to play for multiple teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, where he secured two Super Bowl victories. He most recently played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2025, but was released after being placed on injured reserve due to a calf injury.
After finally healing from his calf injury, he was able to sign with whatever team. Valdes-Scantling now joins the Steelers, who need a boost on the offensive side of the ball.
As stated, Metcalf has shown some explosive skill, picking up 461 yards and five touchdowns this season. Even those numbers through eight games aren’t that elite.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth is second with 200 yards. Beyond that, no other receiver has over 200 yards receiving. After the Steelers were handily beaten by the Green Bay Packers, the team is making a move at the wide receiver position.
Expect the Steelers to sign more, but Valdes-Scantling is a viable veteran who can certainly add another element to the passing game, especially since he knows how Rodgers plays.
