Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Takes Hilarious Fall While Racing Infielder

The Los Angeles Dodgers arrived in Toronto on Thursday with no plans of leaving without a World Series trophy.
The Dodgers, after taking a 2-1 lead in the series with a Game 3 win, lost consecutive games at home, and now have their backs against the wall as the series finishes north of the border.

On Thursday, the Dodgers held an optional team workout at the Rogers Centre, but manager Dave Roberts said every single player was in attendance.
Normally that would be a good thing. However, based on the events that transpired on Thursday night, Roberts likely wishes some people stayed home.
At some point during the workout, Roberts and infielder Hyeseong Kim appeared to set up a race, as captured by the Japanese outlet, Kyodo news. Roberts — a known speedster back in the day — got a head start in the race. Unfortunately, it didn’t do much to help him.
As Roberts rounded second base, he seemed to get tripped up by the infield dirt. He face-planted right into the ground, giving every single player in attendance something to laugh about.
Roberts got up and pretended to have an injury, while also revealing a sweatshirt that was covered in dirt. While Roberts would have likely preferred to have had fewer people in attendance for his misstep, in all seriousness, he praised his team for showing up to the optional workout ahead of two potential must-win games.

“I think that I’m in good spirits, our coaches are. What better way to win the World Series, in Game 7. But we got to win tomorrow,” Roberts said. “And the thing that’s encouraging for me is I know I gave our players an option to not work out today because of the long series and 18 innings and travel and all that stuff, and not one guy took the option.
“So that was pretty exciting for me and just speaks to where these guys are at, that they realize that the job’s not done, and we’re going to keep going and keep fighting.”
Game 6 of the World Series is Friday night in Toronto. Game 7, if necessary, will be Saturday night.
