Fans of the Cleveland Browns continue to speculate on when they will see the NFL debut of quarterback Shedeur Sanders. While it is unlikely that it will come in Week 10 against the New York Jets, the Browns received some positive news on Sanders’ status for Sunday’s game.
Dillon Gabriel will remain the Browns’ starting quarterback. However, given how inconsistent the former Oklahoma product has been this season under center, it could only be a matter of time until another quarterback in Cleveland gets a chance to start.
Supporters of Shedeur Sanders have been hoping that he is the next player to get a start under center after Gabriel. While it’s unclear whether that will ultimately be the case, he seems to be healthy enough to see the field if called upon.

On Wednesday, the Browns revealed their pre-practice injury report, which did not include Sanders. This comes after Sanders was inactive for the team’s Week 8 game due to his back injury.

With this in mind, Sunday’s game, which features one significant offensive change for the Browns, could loom large as to who will ultimately be the starting quarterback throughout the remainder of the 2025 season in Cleveland.
Notably, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has decided to cede play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees for the upcoming game.
Should Gabriel continue to show inconsistency with Rees calling plays the same way he has with Stefanski calling plays, it could very well spell the end of Gabriel’s starting opportunities.
Fortunately for Gabriel, he and the Browns offense do have some positive factors going their way in Sunday’s game after the Jets opted to clean house on the defensive side of the ball.
Both Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams were dealt at the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, which should help matters for the Browns’ offense.
