The New York Giants are 2-7 before getting set to travel to play the 5-3 Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The Giants’ upcoming schedule looks daunting for head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, who desperately need to add some wins to their resume before the end of the season. Following their game against the Bears, New York will play the 5-2-1 Green Bay Packers, 5-3 Detroit Lions and 7-2 New England Patriots.
Daboll is squarely on the hot seat. He’s gone 20-39-1 during his four seasons with the Giants. He’s failed to have a winning season since taking New York to the playoffs in his first year with the team in 2022.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes that the Giants’ decision not to trade stars like defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux is due to an “uncertain future” with leadership. Breer suggested keeping Lawrence and Thibodeaux was a way for the Giants to make the general manager and head coaching jobs more appealing.
“The Giants listened (to trade offers) but I heard early on that they weren’t planning to move Kayvon Thibodeaux, much less Dexter Lawrence,” Breer wrote. “Lawrence is only 27 years old, and the team is in a weird spot, with its uncertain future gumming up the works on shipping guys out of town.
“I’d also assume if there are changes, new guys coming in would see Lawrence as a massive asset, both literally and figuratively.”
The Giants should be an attractive job if quarterback Jaxson Dart continues to develop for the rest of the season. The team has young talent on offense like Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo.
An incoming coach or general manager would probably like the idea of a potentially quick turnaround with key pieces on defense to go along with an offense that should be trending upward.
The fact that the Giants didn’t make those moves at the trade deadline could signal that the team is ready to move on from Daboll and Schoen.
