Mets Owner Sends Message on Keeping Moves Secret
The New York Mets missed the postseason last year and have some big decisions to make this winter. Most notably, Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz have both opted out of their contracts, making them free agents.
What the team does with the two fan favorites will be a huge talking point, but the team also has other needs to address. The starting rotation was a mess last year, and it is clear the team needs an ace. If Alonso leaves, replacing his offensive production will be another focal point.
There has been little intel on the team’s actual plans from those who actually cover the team. However, that is all according to plan. Steve Cohen replied to a post by The Wave’s editor-in-chief, Mark C. Healey, confirming he likes to keep things close to the vest. Healey’s original post called out the lack of “real actionable intel into the team’s plans from the folks who cover the team.” He also noted the unpredictability of David Stearns.

“Mark, I like operating that way but if you call Alex (Cohen), she will tell you everything,” Cohen wrote on X.
Cohen’s wife, Alex, is also an owner of the team.
The Mets have needs to address this offseason, but Cohen clearly does not want leaks coming from inside the organization on its intentions. Last offseason, the Mets were in the spotlight thanks to the Juan Soto sweepstakes. This offseason, they may be looking to fly under the radar and make some important moves.
