WWE SmackDown Reveals More John Cena Tournament Matches
John Cena is still in the process of getting an opponent for his final match, slated for next month’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” His opponent will earn the opportunity by winning a 16-man tournament, first announced on SNME in Salt Lake City, Utah, earlier this month.
On Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, general manager Nick Aldis revealed two more matches for Cena’s final opponent tournament. However, Aldis teased the fans with one of the matches, suggesting something big is on the way.
In a backstage segment, Aldis indicated that two-time Grand Slam champion The Miz will face “Main Event” Jey Uso in one of the matches. As fans have seen, The Miz and Cena have history, including battles over various championships.
The second match will feature LA Knight, someone that fans have been supporting for a while, and getting to appear in Cena’s last one would be huge. However, after Aldis pulled the opponent’s name out of the tumbler, he seemed a bit surprised by who it was and told fans he would keep Knight’s opponent a secret until next week.

Aldis keeping that name secret could indicate that it will be an individual with TNA, possibly one with significant history or popularity. That could point to Matt Cardona, Jeff Hardy, or newer star Joe Hendry.
It could also indicate that someone from NXT will be Cena’s opponent, including major stars like Trick Williams, Ricky Saints, or Ethan Page. Whoever it is could create a major stir within the tournament and get a major pop from fans upon their arrival.
A major surprise would be an All Elite Wrestling star somehow making their way onto SmackDown for a WWE match. However, that seems less likely than a TNA or NXT opponent for Knight.
These recently announced matches on SmackDown join two matches announced earlier this week on “Monday Night Raw.” Those matches will feature Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sheamus and Damian Priest vs. Rusev. The two winners move on to the next round of the tournament bracket.
With these four matches, it is half of the 16-man tournament so far. The winner of it all battles Cena at “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on Dec. 13, in Washington, D.C., for Cena’s final match before retiring from WWE.
