Miami fell to 2-2 in the ACC last week as it was unable to finish off host SMU in a 26-20 overtime loss. The Hurricanes took a 20-17 lead with 9:34 left on Carter Davis’ 45-yard field goal before SMU tied the game with 25 seconds remaining and won in overtime after intercepting a pass on the Canes’ first possession in the extra session. Carson Beck threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns but was picked off twice, while Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for 84 yards and a score on 16 carries.
Syracuse gained just 152 yards last week in a 27-10 Halloween night loss to North Carolina that dropped the Orange to 1-5 in ACC play. Yasin Willis ran for 66 yards on 15 carries, and Syracuse’s only touchdown came via Anwar Sparrow’s 51-yard fumble return that gave the Orange a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter. Syracuse led 10-6 at halftime before the offense went radio-silent after the break.
The Hurricanes will look to avenge a 41-38 loss at Syracuse in the regular-season finale last season that knocked Miami out of the College Football Playoff mix. It snapped a run of six straight wins for the ‘Canes in the series, which they lead 16-8.
